Inspired by song...

Recently submitted my name to an up & coming magazine for possible work in future. To evaluate my style further, I was then asked to illustrate one of the following...

I went with Option 2. Never heard the song before. Had to study the lyrics & just draw what I heard. What dya think, does it invoke the vibe of the song? This is not the final version. will change accordingly & may colour it in later on....think I may do more pieces "inspired by song" in future.

No rhyme or reason. If you notice it's kinda inspired by Wes Anderson(King Of The Hipsters) movie posters.

Top Secret

Sorry but the explanation to the images below is top secret. I can't tell you what they are, but if you've been following my blog. You should figure out they're to do with Vampire Boogie.
Lets just say, we're...expanding.
We're taking the grounded street-level narrative & attaching it to an underlying sprawling epic.

Bag it!

The Mother-In Law is starting up a business of homemade bags with funny slogans on them.
I offered to design a logo for her.

Went with this one in the end

Being unemployed means you watch a lot of TV. If you can't tell who this is, I'm a terrible artist.

Designing Dante

Going back to the original art, it was kinda hard to see what the hell journalist Dante looked like. From what I could see he was a tall lanky figured bloke in a onesie. The elf-like hat & stitching on his clothing gave me a kind of Paul Kidby Disc World vibe. This story was a modern day story, but had a style set in a distant past or a fantasy look.
What I ended up with is an outfit that's a pastiche of different times. His general look and physicality was kind of combination of Russell Brand & Alan Cumming.

Dante's Donuts

Months ago when I was moving stuff out of my old flat, I came across these(below). Dante's Donuts - 2short comic strips drawn by my old friend Barry Flynn back in 2006, during one of his many manic existential crises...He was that kinda bloke. Weird, surreal comedic take on Dante's Inferno.

Looked at them and thought..."I'm gonna try illustrate these 'truckers".

You want what, Corey?

So part of the 'Boogie script asked for a splash page of a hall full of other "exotic" vampires. To the internet!!! Did a lil' research. Found some unusual creatures. Reinterpreted them. So what we got?
The Scottish Red Cap. Like most legendary creatures, descriptions vary. It's described as bloodthirsty Elf-like creature, who throws big boulders at passers-by on road. Has super speed, despite the fact that it wears iron boots. Kills and exsanguinates it's victims. But doesn't drink their blood. Instead uses the blood to keep it's hat red.
The Polong is a Malaysian vampire myth. Apparently created by magic, the Polong was made of the blood of a evil/murdered man and is kept in bottles. Once created, they have to feed on blood everyday & must do their creator's bidding. Some myths describe the Polong as a being of crimson fire. Others - a tiny humanoid. My version - kind of an evil Smurf.
The Ekimmu is one of the oldest vampire legends of ancient Assyria. I figured they'd be so old, their bodies would start to calcify.
The Asanbosam is a vampire legend from Ghana. They have hooks for feet and live in trees much like the Yaramayawho.
The Impundulu of Southern Africa. It's mostly described as a large white bird who has control of lightning(random). But other legends say it has the power to appear as a handsome man ,to seduce women.

Was chattin' to his girl who my mate was goin' out with years ago in a pub. She said she wanted a tattoo of a female Wolverine. Drew this for her on the spot. I said "Hmm, I think I female WeaponX would be sexier" She said "Who's WeaponX?"

The method...

STILL NOT FINISHED! Not sure what we're gonna do with it yet. Could be a front cover or some kind of promo piece for the upcomming Vampire Boogie project. Just to show how the "process" goes. Everyone else does it so...
